PIANO PLAYING AND ‘INTELLIGENT LEARNING’ - A chance to  experience and discuss a new way of being at the piano

PIano playing in a new light, one that brings freedom from tension and the mindless ‘tactile slavery’ [Glen Gould] of practice that leads not only to strain, but boredom.

How a conscious approach to the piano can prevent automatic and unhelpful responses

My own study both as a pianist and teacher has been influenced and informed by the ideas of Alexander, having trained for many years with Nelly Ben Or.  How can we nurture freedom and clarity unhindered by unhelpful responses and reactions?  How much more can be achieved by simplicity and stillness, within the context of a clear and active mind?

Taking place in Muswell Hill, North London.

There is only one good technique, and that is to attain a maximum of achievement with a minimum of effort.
